Marlyn McKenn BioMarlyn is a long time resident of Urbandale, moving here from the Waterloo in 1986. Service to others is part of his DNA, from serving on professional boards and civic organizations to volunteering in his children’s schools and his Urbandale church. He is past chair of the Urbandale Library Board and the Urbandale Library Foundation Board and has served on the Capital Improvements Committee  of Urbandale.  Marlyn has been affiliated with the Urbandale Caring Corps since his wife, Connie, was tri-chair in 2000. His family also includes four adult children and two grandchildren.

Marlyn, a native of Iowa, was born in Sac City, Iowa and was inducted into Sac City’s Hall of Fame in part due to his success starting the Howard Activity Center, a facility that served individuals with disabilities.   While he holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Drake, he became an avid Hawk fan after graduating in the 70’s with a degree in social work.

Marlyn’s interest in serving his community will take a new turn as of January 2017 as he retires from his position as CEO and President of Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa. Those that know Marlyn, know he lives and breathes the mission of Goodwill of Central Iowa which is to improve the quality of life for all individuals by providing skills training and helping people find jobs. He is proud that since he came to Goodwill of Central Iowa, year over year more people have been served, and more people have been placed into jobs, revenue has increased yearly at the retail locations, and contract work has increased providing additional training opportunities for those individuals that Goodwill serves.

Marlyn looks forward to continuing to serve on the UCAN board and to the new opportunities that await!
