Starting this month, UCAN will periodically recognize an outstanding High School Volunteer who is participating in the newly organized Silver Cord Program.

Our first Silver Cord Volunteer Spotlight focuses on Sophia Vogeler, a Senior at Urbandale High School.  Sophia lives in Urbandale with her dad, Mike and mom, Hala. She is an active volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Key Club, Leo Club, Eco Club and Student Ambassadors. She serves as President of the National Honor Society, and serves on the National Council on Youth Leadership. Sophia is an employee of Koalaty Time Daycare. In her “spare time”, Sophia takes piano lessons and serves on a Student Improvement Action Committee.

Following graduation, Sophia hopes to attend a prestigious college, followed by law school.
When asked why she volunteers, Sophia said, “I enjoy volunteering because I feel like I am giving back to my community and helping others; knowing that I choose to sacrifice my time for the benefit of others puts a smile on my face and is unbelievably rewarding!”

Sophia, you share your time and your talent, and we hope you know how much it is appreciated!~
