September Volunteer Spotlight – LeRoy Gardner
LeRoy Gardner is a fairly new addition to the list of Caring Corps Drivers, but he is not new to volunteering! He volunteers 13 hours a month at the Urbandale Food Pantry, mows the lawn of the Urbandale Baptist Church, donates blood at LifeServe every other month, and most recently started assisting another Caring Corps volunteer with Home Repair projects.
Before retirement, LeRoy worked for 40 years for an electric utilities company and farmed 500 acres. And between the retirement and current, he drove a ParaTransit bus for 6 years.
LeRoy is married to Janice – celebrating more than 50 years together. They have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. They moved to Urbandale to be closer to the grandkids!
One of LeRoy’s hobbies includes playing the stock market with “Puts & Calls”. He attends church regularly and says “God has been good to me and my family.”
LeRoy’s philosophy – “If you want something to happen, you have to make it happen. Don’t count on someone else. I can’t wish someone will wash my car, mow my lawn or clean my garage! Don’t put off the small jobs!”
