Reports To: Board of Directors, Urbandale Community Action Network (UCAN)

Starting Date: Immediately Upon Availability

Position Purpose:

The Urbandale Community Action Network (UCAN) is seeking a community-focused, purpose-driven, and results-oriented leader to serve as Director. Responsibilities broadly include the planning, directing, and general coordination of all UCAN programmatic activities across the various human services, community relations, events and communication coordination, and general program management activities required to operate a leading service organization in Urbandale, Iowa.

Essential Functions:

Recommend and advocate for UCAN programmatic initiatives that meet the wide needs of the citizens of Urbandale; lead the development of programming in consultation with committee chairpersons.
Drive UCAN communication activities across social media, print, and similar media sources to ensure that UCAN’s message is reaching the local community.
Maintain UCAN’s existing deep and broad relationships with community and civic leaders, as well as like-minded organizational leaders in Urbandale that are working to meet similar community needs. Continue to grow and develop this network.
Lead fundraising efforts across a diversity of UCAN events and drive the writing of applications for a variety of grant opportunities at the local, state, and national levels.  
Build and maintain volunteer resources and networks to support UCAN programmatic requirements.
Coordinate scheduling for UCAN Board and committee meetings, as well as volunteer events.
Manage UCAN budgets and accounting details with financial accounting person.
Maintain Network budgets for a major 501(c)(3) non-project organization; prepare and distribute financial reports and metrics to UCAN Board of Directors in coordination with the UCAN Treasurer.
In coordination with the Executive Committee of the Board, prepare and distribute monthly Board of Directors agendas and materials for monthly meetings.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously across a spectrum of diverse community initiatives.
Maintain wide flexibility in work scheduling to facilitate programmatic events delivery as needed. This may include some weekend and evening work to support program requirements.

The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will possess both a college degree and experience in organizationaldevelopment, program management, public relations, or a closely related field. Experience in non-profit organizations is very valuable. Ability to complete background checks.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  

Salary: $45,000 – $47,000
